Equine Medicine Assistant Position Now CLOSED

  • Future applicants must have some previous referral hospital experience or experience with sick foals. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic with good team working skills and professionalism.

 

  • Candidates will be in charge of the admission, care, and treatment of over 150 ICU foals and a wide range of other medical conditions in both adults and neonates equine patients.

 

  • Fethard Equine Hospital medicine unit is a well-purposed-built ward with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the best care of our inpatients.

 

  • This is a great opportunity to gain further experience in equine neonatal medicine as this is a hands-on medicine position where the candidate will be expected to work autonomously by the end of this period.

 

  • Due to the seasonal nature of the position, this is a 6-month-fixed contract starting in early January with the possibility to extend it through our rotational internship. Accommodation in town and daily lunch will be provided. Salary will be based on experience.

  • Intern Program Purpose: Our program provides graduate veterinarians with clinical experience in a large, busy, private practice

  • Program Description

    • Fethard Equine Hospital has a large and dedicated team of boarded clinicians, nurses and interns who are seeking motivated and enthusiastic interns to join our team for the rotating hospital internship program.

    • Fethard Equine Hospital is located in the heart of Irish horse country in Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland.

    • We are a tertiary care facility that offers such services as lameness (Including ultrasound, digital radiology, standing Computed Tomography (CT), MRI, PRP, and stem cell therapy), surgery (including arthroscopy, laparoscopy, endoscopy, computer/CT guided fracture repair, laser), medicine (including gastroscopy, specialised neonatal care, intensive care unit) and emergency/critical care. 

    • All interns rotate between medicine/neonatal care and surgery/lameness, as well as participate in emergency/critical care. You will be working and learning from some of the best surgeons and clinicians who are experts in their field of work.

    • Your working hours will vary throughout the year. The normal hospital days are Monday-Friday with on-call night and weekend duty on a rota basis

    • If you are looking to undertake an internship with us here it would be beneficial for you to spend some time at the hospital as an extern. 

    • Our internships can be hard work but you will gain invaluable experience and it is a great stepping stone to your career as a vet or a residency in your desired field.

  • Intern Positions

    • 6 internship positions per year therefore we are always hiring.

    • The internship is 13 months, starting at two different times of the year: 

      1. July 1st - August 1st (3 Interns).

      2. December 1st -January 1st (3 Interns).

    • ​ ​We provide accommodation to all our interns along with lunch daily​.

  •    Extern Positions:

    • Our Externs work alongside our experienced interns and is a good opportunity for you to get a good grasp of Equine practice. We often take on Externs as Interns in the future so please keep this in mind and express your interest in an Internship position while you are here.

    • The student can apply for a minimum of 1 week.

    • The extern will assist the interns in out-of-hours monitoring, surgery, treatments, and medical cases.

    • Please note we are a very busy hospital with a lot going on so being comfortable around horses is essential.

    • Lunch daily will be supplied.

Veterinary nursing Students: Students can apply for a minimum of 2 weeks. Lunch will be provided daily. Accommodation can be discussed with Anne. Having your own transport is ideal but not essential.
