Equine Medicine fellowship position at Fethard Equine Hospital. Ireland. 

​

Fethard Equine Hospital is hiring an equine vet with a strong interest in neonatology, critical care, and internal medicine. 

  • Previous referral hospital experience or experience with sick foals is ideal but not essential.

  • The successful candidate must be enthusiastic with good team working skills and professionalism.

  • Candidates will be in charge of the admission, care, and treatment of over 150 ICU foals and a wide range of other medical conditions in both adult and neonates equine patients.

  • Fethard Equine Hospital medicine unit is a brand new well-purposed-built ward with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the best care for our inpatients. 

  • This is a great opportunity to gain further experience in equine neonatal medicine as this is a hands-on medicine position where the candidate will be expected to work autonomously by the end of this period.

  • Due to the seasonal nature of the position, this is a 6-month fixed contract, immediate start. Accommodation in town and daily lunch will be provided. Salary will be discussed based on experience.

​Veterinary Externships and Internships positions - OPEN

​

Intern Program Purpose:

 

The internship program at Fethard Equine Hospital is a rotating equine internship consisting of rotations through surgery/lameness and internal medicine. Duties involve performing daily patient assessments and treatments, triage of emergencies, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging (radiography, ultrasound, CT and MRI), participating in lameness evaluations, assisting in surgery, and assisting with outpatient procedures. The program is designed to provide a learning environment in which first year veterinarians can sharpen their diagnostic, clinical and decision making skills while under the mentorship of specialists. It is 13 months in length, and two intern classes are accepted annually starting in July and December, respectively. Accommodation and veterinary defense society liability coverage provided along with a competitive internship salary.

 

Prerequisites for acceptance:

  • Completion in good standing of a veterinary degree (MVB or equivalent)

  • A veterinary license from the Veterinary Council of Ireland

  • Completion of an externship program of at least 2 weeks duration at Fethard Equine Hospital

  • Due to difficulties in processing working visas, the internship is only open to citizens of EU member states or UK citizens.

  • PLEASE NOTE applications will only be considered for applicants who have completed an externship OR have an externship scheduled.

  • Application Deadline:

    • October 8th 2023 for July 2024 internship (now closed)

    • March 8th 2024 for December 2024 internship

    • Please note the above deadlines are absolute!

  • Extern Positions:​

    • The student can apply for a minimum of 2 weeks.

    • Must have public liability insurance cover from your university or the BVA

    • The extern will assist the interns in out-of-hours monitoring, surgery, treatments, and medical cases.

    • Please note we are a very busy hospital with a lot going on so being comfortable around horses is essential.

    • Lunch will be supplied daily.

    • We do not provide accommodation. This must be organised by the extern, along with transport to/from the clinic. Locations for accommodation: Fethard, Clonmel, Cashel, Killenaule

  • Our Externs work alongside our experienced set of 8 interns. This is a good opportunity for you to get a good grasp of Equine practice. We often take on Externs as Interns in the future so please keep this in mind and express your interest in an Internship position while you are here.
