About the course

Practical foaling and dystocia is led by experts in the field offering a combination of hands-on training and in-depth discussions to provide invaluable insights into mare dystocia. From straightforward foalings to intricate salvage operations and fetotomies, you will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to handle a variety of scenarios and know when and how to refer or call it a day.

Bring your waterproofs and prepare to get down on the ground to “foal” using models, correct common malpresentations using cadavers and hone your skills in using fetotomy wire. There are no other courses in Europe offering this experience, you don’t want to miss it.

O'Byrne and Halley is a large Equine Veterinary practice based in Fethard, South Tipperary. We are currently seeking to recruit a highly organized and proactive Practice Administrator to join our team on a maternity cover contract. This is a fast paced role providing varied administrative support to our different departments. Key responsibilities: Accurate processing of client payments and financial transactions Data Entry of veterinary work onto our system Managing incoming calls in a professional manner and directing queries appropriately Preparing and organising sales related documentation and records Uploading X-rays/endoscopy files to the sales repository (training provided) Ensuring patient and client records are kept up to date Providing administrative support to other departments as required The ideal candidate will have: Previous administrative/clerical experience Strong IT and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail Excellent organisation and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload A professional telephone manner and strong communicate skills A flexible approach to work, capable to work both independently or as part of a team Self-motivation and enthusiasm with the ability to take ownership of your role Fluent English, both spoken and written Previous experience working in a veterinary practice ideal but not essential This is an on-site role operating on a five-day week basis, including participation in a weekend Rota. Fethard Equine Hospital has a current team of 8 veterinary nurses, 4 surgeons, 1 specialist medicine clinician, 9 veterinary interns, as well as a large support team. We are one of Irelands busiest Equine Hospitals with a modern, purpose-built building with all diagnostics equipment including an in-house CT, standing Hallmarq MRI as well as an on-site laboratory, new purpose built medicine facility, isolation unit and much more. The Role: ​ Our nurses have rotating roles within the hospital through surgery, medicine, in-patient, and out-patient care. The position entails a shared OOH rota of 1 in 8. New graduates and experienced nurses are welcome to apply. The internship program at Fethard Equine Hospital is a rotating equine internship consisting of rotations through surgery/lameness and internal medicine. Duties involve performing daily patient assessments and treatments, triage of emergencies, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging (radiography, ultrasound, CT and MRI), participating in lameness evaluations, assisting in surgery, and assisting with outpatient procedures. The program is designed to provide a learning environment in which first year veterinarians can sharpen their diagnostic, clinical and decision making skills while under the mentorship of specialists. It is 13 months in length, and two intern classes are accepted annually starting in July and December, respectively. Accommodation and veterinary defense society liability coverage provided along with a competitive internship salary. Prerequisites for acceptance: ​ Completion in good standing of a veterinary degree (MVB or equivalent) A veterinary license from the Veterinary Council of Ireland Completion of an externship program of at least 2 weeks duration at Fethard Equine Hospital Due to difficulties in processing working visas, the internship is only open to citizens of EU member states or UK citizens.
